The 6th International Forum on Project Management Held in Shenzhen

The 6th International Forum on Project Management hosted by the Training Center of State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and co-organized by the Project Management Institute (PMI®) was successfully held in Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center on the morning of April 16, 2017. Lu Ming, Deputy Director of State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Wan Jinfa, Director of the Training Center of State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Cindy W. Anderson, Vice President, Brand Management, Project Management Institute (PMI®), John Rodney Turner, a British internationally renowned project management expert, Li Bin, General Manager of Qianhai New Economy Cultural Center (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Jiang Sheng, Deputy Director of COFCO Benchmarking Center, Yi Zuwei, Director of Huawei Project Management Center of Excellence (PMCoE), Chen Xinxiang, Executive Vice-President of the World Innovation Institute, and Li Dan, Director of the Project Management Center, Tasly Holdings Group Co., Ltd. were specially invited to attend the Forum. There was an attendance of nearly 1,000 at the Forum, including those from the government departments, enterprises, colleges and universities, and registered education and training institutions as well as the project management practitioners and enthusiasts.

As part of the Talent Attraction Section of the 15th Conference on International Exchange of Professionals, the Forum, by bringing together the Chinese and foreign guests and project management professionals to share the academic frontiers and the latest developments in international project management, aimed at building an international exchange platform where all project management professionals can upgrade their project management skills, share experience in project management and keep up with the latest developments in the project management. In view of the new situations of economic development and the new characteristics of enterprise development and change, “Arising from Change and Striving for Change” was the theme of the Forum, where the Chinese and foreign experts with the organizational change and project management as their starting point in combination with the current topical issues of development discussed from multiple dimensions the excellent application and practice of project management in China under the new circumstances, shared the academic frontiers of the international project management and the current trends in talent training and development, and exchanged innovative ideas of project management application by focusing on the PMI Talent Triangle and relying on the knowledge system of Project Management Professional (PMP®®), Program Management Professional (PgMP®®), etc.

Lu Ming said that the introduction of internationally advanced, mature and applicable knowledge system and professional qualification certification as the third way to attract high-quality intellectual resources from abroad could provide effective support for cultivating international professionals suitable for the development of Chinese enterprises by learning from the achievements of advanced foreign civilizations. The cultivation of internationally high-qualified project management talents helped to develop a talent pool for the industrial development in China. It was of great practical significance for speeding up the application and practice of international project management in Chinese enterprises, optimizing the allocation of enterprise resources and elements, promoting scientific management level, reducing cost and waste, improving overall efficiency, supporting enterprises in quality and efficiency improvement and structural transformation, facilitating innovation and even accelerating enterprises "going global", and boosting China's economic development.

Cindy W. Anderson presented the Pulse of the Profession 2017, introducing the roles the project management could play from the perspectives of organizations and individuals. At the same time, she systematically expounded on the key factors and methods for project management helping enterprises succeed based on the PMI survey data and typical cases.

John Rodney Turner, around the topic of organizational change and in combination with practical cases in his keynote speech, elaborated on how to define change, manage change, develop strategy and judge success through the project management ideas and tools as well as the methods for process management to improve performance, and introduced the effective thinking on integrating the project strategy with the enterprise organizational strategy.

Li Bin, in his keynote speech, analyzed the new characteristics of business development in this new economy as well as the opportunities and challenges, and introduced in detail the project management methodology applied to the innovative business complex in this new economy in all aspects and from all perspectives of project management.

During the dialogue session, the project management experts and outstanding enterprise representatives from different backgrounds shared and introduced, around the topics of project management, organizational change, etc., their own practical application of project management in organizational management, strategic management, benchmarking management, etc., thus the participants would know the methods and techniques on how to apply project management at different levels in combination with the actual situation of enterprises to achieve success in project and organization. The dialogue embodied that the industrial project management knowledge system with Chinese characteristics had initially taken shape.

The Forum being a real feast for the participants showed them the important role of project management in the organizational change of enterprises and a rapidly changing external environment, the new ideas, new perspectives and new methods for project management, which brought more enlightenment and thinking to the participants. The number of participants and organizations reached a new high.
