The 2002 CIEP and Project Fair, themed by “Integrating Global Intelligence to Promote Co-development” and jointly hosted by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and the Nanjing Municipal People’s Government, was held in Nanjing from October 23 to 25, 2002. The conference was attended by more than 800 foreign experts, representatives of overseas talent agencies and overseas students from more than 30 countries, as well as more than 3,500 representatives from China. The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs concluded long-term cooperation agreements with 10 foreign expert organizations, and reached more than 3,300 cooperation intentions. These projects included 2,100 economic expert projects, 729 cultural and educational expert projects, and 508 expatriate training projects, involving a total of 8,500 trainees. Compared with the 1^st CIEP, the number of countries and regions participating in the conference increased by 50%. The combined mode of on-site communication and online negotiation facilitated and regulated the exchange of personnel, and also improved the quantity and quality of cooperation projects significantly as compared with that of last year.

At the conference, 37 agencies from outside Chinese Mainland obtained the qualifications to engage in talents intermediary service from the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
