Co-hosted by the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel (CAIEP) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the Asian Universities Science and Technology Innovation Forum was successfully held on January 27-28, 2024 in Hong Kong SAR, China. 29 presidents and vice presidents from 11 universities in China (including Hong Kong SAR. and Macao SAR), 10 in Japan, and 8 in other seven Asian countries participated and envisioned a promising future of deepening collaboration among Asian universities in education, science and technology, and talent development sectors.
In this era brimming with challenges and opportunities, Asia is rapidly emerging as a pivotal hub for global innovation. The Asian youth talents, nurtured in universities across various Asian countries and regions, are not only propelling Asia’s advancement but also showcasing their brilliance on the world stage. Under this context, the participants shared insights and experiences on amplifying the global allure of Asian universities, better nurturing and retaining talents, and advancing science and technology innovation by delivering a better international environment.
XIA Bing, Deputy Director of China Association for International Exchange of Personnel (CAIEP), MORIMOTO Shigeo, Vice President of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), OKADA Kenichi, Consul-General (Ambassador) Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong, FU Yao, Vice President of the University of Science and Technology of China, KONO Yasuyuki, Vice-President of Kyoto University, GONG Peng, Vice President of the University of Hong Kong, and Rui P. Martins, Vice Rector of the University of Macau delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. LUO Zhongxuan, Vice President of Dalian University of Technology, MASU Kazuya, President of Tokyo Institute of Technology, Lee Pooi See, Vice President of Nanyang Technological University, Ova Emilia, Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Christopher Chao, Vice President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, SASAKI Yasuko, President of Ochanomizu University, and Reini Wirahadikusuma, Rector of Institut Teknologi Bandung delivered keynote speeches respectively.
In the subsequent roundtable discussion, the discussion was conducted in three groups of prestigious Asian universities, including Dalian University of Technology, Shandong University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Tongji University, University of Science and Technology of China, Wuhan University, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Hokkaido University, Iwate University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Ochanomizu University, University of Tsukuba, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tohoku University, Yokohama National University, Waseda University, Institute of Technology of Cambodia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the University of the Philippines Diliman, Nanyang Technological University, Chulalongkorn University, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The participants also included representatives from relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, and Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission, etc.
